Special Olympics Torch Run

Officers from all five law enforcement agencies in Jackson County will participate in the annual Special Olympics Torch run this Friday, May 19. The event began in 1981 in Wichita, Kansas. Known as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcers and Special Olympic athletes carry the "Flame of Hope" into the opening ceremonies of local competitions, as well as state, regional, national and world games. There are more than 97,000 law enforcement members who carry the "Flame of Hope" each year.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Rodeo

This year was the 16th annual Jackson County Sheriff’s Rodeo. People come from all over to watch this National Cowboy Pro Rodeo Association rodeo at the Mallette Covered Arena in Vancleave.
