County jury of the felony charge of Escape.

Michael Floyd Wilson, 49, was found guilty on February 26, 2020, by a Greene County jury of the felony charge of Escape. Wilson, who was serving a life sentence out of Harrison County, escaped from the South Mississippi Correctional Facility in Leakesville on July 5, 2018. He was captured on July 7, 2018 in St. Martin. Multiple agencies assisted in the three-day search. Jackson County Sheriff’s Department made the arrest.

Judge Kathy King Jackson sentenced Wilson as a habitual offender to life in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections without parole. The sentence will serve consecutively to the life sentence he is currently serving.

District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath stated, “I commend the hard work and dedication of the law enforcement agencies who worked diligently to search for, and ultimately apprehend, this defendant after his escape. I am proud of the verdict and sentence handed down today.”

Assistant District Attorneys Elliot Burch and Carolyn Lewis prosecuted the case.
