The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Jackson County District Attorney’s office are assisting the sheriff’s department in investigating an inmate hanging death in the adult detention center.
Sheriff Mike Ezell says a deputy found 35-year old Robert Gene Danley, Jr., hanging in his cell shortly after head count Friday (December 28) night. The staff attempted CPR but were unsuccessful, and Danley was pronounced deceased at 7:20pm.
Danley was a trustee in the jail. He was arrested on November 12 by Pascagoula Police on misdemeanor charges. He was also on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a prior conviction. The probation was revoked and Danley was awaiting transfer to a state prison.
