Our County's Recreation Department is one of the largest and most diverse in Mississippi. Facilities include:

  • 12 community parks
  • 15 playgrounds
  • 2 multi-purpose arenas
  • 20 tennis courts
  • 21 public boat ramps and piers
  • 3 beaches
  • 62 lighted fields
  • A golf course
  • And much more

While these numbers are the foundation of the Recreation Department, their vision is to create more opportunities for families to enjoy all of our facilities. Sports fields are surrounded by walking tracks, tennis courts, playground equipment, and even splash pads. We invite all citizens to come and play with us.


The Recreation Department provides services for areas within Jackson County:

  • Construction of:
    • Bathrooms
    • Concession stands
    • Major structural repairs
    • Paint at recreational facilities
    • Pavilions
    • Plumbing repairs
    • Press boxes
    • Storage rooms
  • Cut grass, supply dirt, replace and/or maintain fences, pre-season preparation, empty trash cans at parks and ball fields in the unincorporated areas of the county
  • Maintain and supply and empty trash cans at public beaches and boat ramps
  • Maintain and schedule events at the Conrad Mallette Multi-Purpose Complex and the Hurley Horse Arena
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Whispering Pines Golf Course in Hurley
  • Placement and supervision of caretakers at recreational facilities
  • Collect Fees and explain Rules for park and arena users
  • Coordinate the use of athletic facilities with parent organized leagues
  • Reserve facilities for citizens, and much more
