JC to emphasize recycling with new residential waste services contract
On June 17, Jackson County Supervisors approved a new five year residential waste services contract with Waste Pro for the approximately 26,000 households in the unincorporated areas of the County. The contract will take effect on July 1. With the continued service of Waste Pro, residents will not see a change in their scheduled pick up days, however, County officials are hoping to see a transformation and increase in curbside recycling participation by residents.

JC recognizes retiree Robert Sema’s 29 years of service with the County

On June 17, the Jackson County Supervisors recognized County Information Systems Director Robert Sema upon the occasion of his retirement. Mr. Sema will officially retire at the end of the month after 29 years of service with the County.

“Puppy” Love is in the Air as JC Animal Shelter and HSSM partner to save lives

The Jackson County Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of South Mississippi have changed their relationship status. That’s right, in an effort to save the lives of as many animals as possible they are now, in Facebook terms, “In a Relationship”. The “courtship” will take place over the next three months as HSSM competes against 50 other shelters in the ASPCA Rachel Ray $100K Challenge. The two organizations are going to use this time period as a trial basis for a potential long term relationship.

Jackson County Farmer’s Market is Ripe for the Pickin’

It’s that time of year! You can take home the makings for a fresh, locally grown meal, or pick up beautiful plants for your home from the Jackson County Farmer’s Market. The Jackson County Farmer’s Market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. until the last customer is served at 2902 Shortcut Road, Pascagoula, MS (at the Jackson County Fairgrounds).
