BOS honors Shannon Triplett with Award
The Jackson County Board of Supervisors recognized Shannon Triplett with the Employee Appreciation Award during the August 8 meeting. Shannon, a Gautier resident, is a Deputy Clerk in the Tax Assessor’s Office. It’s because of her outgoing personality and genuine customer service skills that Shannon was nominated by Chief Deputy Assessor Annie Beeker for this award.
“She is friendly to everyone she works with and meets. She also makes coming to work enjoyable because she keeps us laughing all the time,” Beeker said.
Shannon lives by the motto “Live Abundantly”. To her, it is not just a positive saying; she’s made a conscious decision to do just that. When you meet her you immediately notice and appreciate her smile and enjoyment of life.
Shannon was hired by the Assessor’s Office in 2008, shortly after going through the loss of her husband. Though she had applied with the County many times, she now knows this job was meant to be.
“We are like family; we share, cry with, and encourage each other,” Triplett says. “It’s comforting to know that if I need them, they will be there for me.”
Many of the residents Shannon helps file for Homestead Exemption are recent widows, so she is able to connect with them on a personal level.
Shannon has taken advantage of several opportunities to learn and get involved with the County. Last year she earned her Assessment Evaluator and Certified Appraiser Certificates. This spring she was the office Team Captain for the 10K Steps Challenge, a competition amongst county employees to see who could walk the most steps in six weeks.
It’s obvious that Shannon has always had a positive attitude with a willingness to apply herself to opportunities. She attributes that quality to a good childhood growing up in Milwaukee, WI with two younger brothers and a close extended family.
She laughs about arriving at school with her cousins in a “Buick Riviera” and how people wondered ‘if kids would ever stop coming out of the car.’ Shannon attended the prestigious all women’s Alverno College. Later she married, moved to Moss Point, and is now the proud mother to a house full of girls. She continuously looks for ways to inspire and motivate her children to “Live Abundantly.”
The Board of Supervisors presents the “Employee Appreciation Award” quarterly to an employee nominated by their co-workers. Shannon was presented a plaque, featured in the employee newsletter, and given a gift certificate to Scranton’s Restaurant.
