The Jackson County Emergency Management Office is expecting an inch of rain through tonight. All Jackson County roads are reported as open. There are no shelters open at this time.

JC Proclaims May 2 as National Day of Prayer

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors declared Thursday, May 2, 2013 as National Day of Prayer for the County. This year’s theme, “Pray for America”, is based on the verse from Matthew 12:21 which reminds us that “In His name the nations will  put their hope”. Event Coordinator, Robby Myrick, received the annual proclamation during the April 15 Board meeting.

JC Supervisors visit the Nation’s Capital
The Jackson County Board of Supervisors recently returned from a series of Congressional meetings in Washington D.C. On April 10-11 Supervisors met with Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker and Representatives Steven Palazzo and Alan Nunnelee to request federal funding and support for several future or potential projects in Jackson County.

JC Board Seeks New Tourism Board Applicants
The Jackson County Board of Supervisors are looking for applicants to represent Jackson County on a newly created tri-county tourism board. The 15 member tourism board will serve as a governing body and institute performance measures for the also newly created Mississippi Gulf Coast Regional Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Resumes are due by May 1.

JC hosting Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Jackson County will celebrate EARTH DAY by hosting its 10th Annual  “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day” Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 8 a.m. - Noon in the Singing River Mall Parking Lot. This free turn-in will allow Jackson County residents to dispose of household hazardous waste properly.

Road Advisories in Jackson County


Road Dept. annouces road closure in Latimer Community

The Jackson County Road Department is temporarily closing a section of Tucker Road beginning Friday, February 19 from Brodnax Road north to the Latimer Community Center. Road crews are installing a new 78 foot long concrete box culvert. Work is expected to take two months, weather permitting.

Residents will be able to detour around the closed section using McClellan Road, Daisy Vestry Road, and Old Biloxi Road. All drivers are asked to use caution around this construction site. Pay special attention to traffic signs, road workers and heavy equipment. For a current list of all Jackson County road projects, visit Road Advisories in the left column.
