JC Board proclaims October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Jackson County Board of Supervisors proclaimed October 2013 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Jackson County during their October 7 board meeting. Representatives from Adrienne’s House, a satellite domestic violence shelter of the Gulf Coast Women’s Center for Nonviolence, attended the meeting to accept the proclamation and address the audience.

Recycling gets more convenient at Jackson County facilities
Jackson County’s next step in “recycling convenience” has been delivered! Ten 2-in-1 containers have been placed at high traffic County facilities to encourage more recycling. The new 55 gallon containers have designated sides – one for trash and litter and the other for commonly used recyclables such as plastic and glass bottles, cans, and newspapers.  They are located at both recreational and office facilities.

John McKay to hold town hall meeting on Sept. 11

Jackson County Supervisor John McKay will held a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fontainebleau Community Center. The key topics were TESI water and sewer and the County’s Flood Plain Manager gave an overview of the new FEMA elevation guidelines.

Jackson County recycling carts are rollin’ out

They’re Here! The new 35 gallon rolling recycling carts have made an unexpected early arrival at some homes in the unincorporated areas of Jackson County this week. The new larger carts feature wheels, a sturdy handle, and a lid with clear information about what should be placed inside. It is expected to take about a month to get the carts out to all 26,000 households in the unincorporated areas of the County.

JC Board recognizes the Hurley Hurricanes U-12 girls soccer team

On August 19, the Jackson County Board of Supervisors recognized the Hurley Hurricanes Girls Soccer Team as the 2013 U-12 National Champions of the State Games of America. The team won the Bronze Medal in the 2013 State Games of Mississippi then went on to win the national award in Hershey, Pennsylvania on August 2-4. The Team was presented a plaque and each player received a certificate for their exemplary performance and bringing back such a distinguished title to Jackson County.
