County holds Grand Opening for new Soccer Complex

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors is kicking off the spring soccer season with a “Grand Opening Ceremony” for the new Lum Cumbest Soccer Complex on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m.

JC Supervisor Mangum gives “State of the County”

Jackson County Supervisor Mike Mangum gave the “2010 State of the County” address on January 27. The address focused on the financial numbers behind the County’s budget and several major economic development projects.

Board recognizes Deputy Brad Lewis

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors presented the “Employee Appreciation Award” to Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Lewis on Jan. 19. Lewis was nominated and selected for this award for his outstanding work as an investigator. Lewis received a plaque and a gift certificate to Catfish Point in Wade.

Supervisor McKay to host Town Hall Meetings

Supervisor John McKay is hosting two “Town Hall” meetings next week. The first meeting, which he will co-host with District 1 Supervisor Manly Barton, is in Vancleave on Tuesday, January 19 at 7 p.m. in the HUD Building. The second meeting will be on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Ocean Springs Middle School Cafeteria.

JC starts Christmas tree recycling

Last year the County recycled almost 400 Christmas tress, includes these.

Even without its lights and decorations, your old Christmas tree is still beautiful to the Jackson County Solid Waste Department. The County will again collect and recycle Christmas trees starting on Monday, January 4 at seven locations.

Road Advisories in Jackson County


JC Road Dept. announces road closure in Gulf Park Est.

The Jackson County Road Department will temporarily close the intersection of Ridgeview Drive and Old Spanish Trail in Gulf Park Estates starting on Tues., Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. County Road crews will be replacing cross drain pipes to improve storm water drainage in the area.

JC annouces bridge closure in Escatawpa

The Jackson County’s Road Department is announcing the Coventry Road Bridge in the Escatawpa Community will be closed for a major replacement project beginning Monday, December 7. 

All drivers are asked to use caution around this construction site.  Pay special attention to traffic signs, road workers and heavy equipment. The Coventry Bridge replacement is a “State Aid” project costing almost $200,000. This is the fourth bridge replacement project the County has undertaken in 2009.

Road crews will be removing the existing wooden piling bridge and installing a new 28 foot concrete box culvert bridge.  The improvement work is expected to take four mouths, weather permitting. Residents will be able to detour using Saracennia Road or Wilson Springs Road.
