Baya the Chihuahua- Pet of the Week

Little Baya needs a home.

This little girl is Baya, a 1 year old Chihuahua. She's been spayed and her shots are up to date. Baya is very sweet natured and loves attention. She really likes to snuggle. Baya weighs 6 lbs and would be an excellent companion pet.

Homemakers host 13th annual huge Rummage Sale

Volunteers put out items for the 2009 Rummage Sale

Save your yard sale shopping until THIS weekend when the Jackson County Homemakers host their 13th annual charity Rummage Sale on Saturday, March 13. The rummaging starts at 8 a.m. in the Jackson County Fairground Arts Building located directly behind the Civic Center on Shortcut Road in Pascagoula.

Hundreds attend County's "Town Hall" style meetings

Almost 200 Jackson County residents took advantage of two “Town Hall” style meetings this week to express their opinions and ask questions about District 1 topics. Supervisor Manly Barton hosted the meetings for the Orange Grove, Pecan, and East Central communities on Feb. 22 and Feb. 25.

Road Dept. annouces road closure in Latimer Community

The Jackson County Road Department is temporarily closing a section of Tucker Road beginning Friday, February 19 from Brodnax Road north to the Latimer Community Center. Road crews are installing a new 78 foot long concrete box culvert. Work is expected to take two months, weather permitting.

County holds Grand Opening for new Soccer Complex

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors kicked off the spring soccer season with a “Grand Opening Ceremony” for the new Lum Cumbest Soccer Complex on Saturday, Feb. 13. Golden soccer balls found the back of the net during the ceremonial first kick.

Road Advisories in Jackson County


JC Road Dept. announces road closure in Gulf Park Est.

The Jackson County Road Department will temporarily close the intersection of Ridgeview Drive and Old Spanish Trail in Gulf Park Estates starting on Tues., Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. County Road crews will be replacing cross drain pipes to improve storm water drainage in the area.

JC annouces bridge closure in Escatawpa

3/11/10 Update: Coventry Road Bridge is now open to traffic.

The Jackson County’s Road Department is announcing the Coventry Road Bridge in the Escatawpa Community will be closed for a major replacement project beginning Monday, December 7. 

All drivers are asked to use caution around this construction site.  Pay special attention to traffic signs, road workers and heavy equipment. The Coventry Bridge replacement is a “State Aid” project costing almost $200,000. This is the fourth bridge replacement project the County has undertaken in 2009.

Road crews will be removing the existing wooden piling bridge and installing a new 28 foot concrete box culvert bridge.  The improvement work is expected to take four mouths, weather permitting. Residents will be able to detour using Saracennia Road or Wilson Springs Road.
