Board President Mike Mangum's statement on former employee indictments:

“Today’s indictments are the next important step in this criminal process against our former employee Mrs. Lashley. Since this investigation was begun by the District Attorney and the State Auditor’s Office, the County has implemented safe guards to prevent this type of activity from happening again. JC proclaims September Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month

JC Board on August 30, 2010, proclaims September 2010 as Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month and recognizes the local Association for Sickle Cell Disease, Inc.  for the support services provided to residents suffering from the this disease.

Grand Opening held for new Health Dept.

The “Grand Opening” of the new Jackson County Health Department Building was held Aug. 26; almost five years since Hurricane Katrina ruined the original structure. Jackson County Supervisors were joined by Congressman Gene Taylor along with representatives from the Governor’s Office, MS Development Authority (MDA), and the State Health Department for the ribbon cutting ceremony which will officially open the 24,000 square foot health care facility.

Jackson County- Five years beyond Hurricane Katrina

Events across the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast are now time stamped as either before or after Hurricane Katrina. With the five year remembrance of the nation’s worst natural disaster approaching, it’s time again to review the recovery made since Hurricane Katrina lashed Jackson County with 110 to 130 mph winds and a 15 to 22 foot storm surge.

Day 121- Local and State oil spill information for Wednesday, Aug. 18

Day 121- MDEQ announced that it is launching an initiative this week (Aug. 17) to systematically sample for submersed oil in the Mississippi Sound. Mississippi DMR reopen all Mississippi Territorial Waters to commercial and recreational fish and shrimping.

Road Advisories in Jackson County


JC annouces road closures in the St. Martin Community

The Jackson County Road Dept. is announcing a series of short-term closures along Rose Farm Road in the St. Martin Community beginning Tuesday, July 27. Work crews will be making drainage improvements along the roadway. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the week, weather permitting.

JC starts waterfront improvement projects on Tuesday

Broken end of Lake Mars Pier

The Jackson County Recreation Department is temporarily closing two waterfront facilities- Lake Mars Pier & Brittany Ave Boat Ramp- for improvement projects starting on Tuesday, June 22.
