JC Animal Shelter sponsors Easter Pet Adoption Day
Just in time for Easter, the Jackson County Animal Shelter and the Gulf Coast SPCA are sponsoring a special Pet Adoption Day on Sunday, March 29 at “Pampered Pets” in Ocean Springs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This event makes adopting a family pet affordable, fast, and convenient. The shelter’s staff is bringing a dozen animals ready for immediate adoption to this special event.
“We are going to have cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens,” Bill Richman, Shelter Director explains. “Each animal at this event is fixed, has its first round of shots, and has its rabies vaccination certificate. You can also save $20 off the standard cost from adopting at the shelter.”
To make this event picture perfect, the Easter Bunny will be on hand all afternoon for photos with all visitors and their pets. Those coming just for photos need to keep cats and other small animals in a pet carrier and dogs must be on a short leash. “Pampered Pets” is located at 6011 North Washington Avenue in Ocean Springs behind Pug’s Tobacco Store.
This is the first time the shelter’s staff and the Gulf Coast SPCA have organized an Easter Adoption Day. All proceeds from this adoption day will be donated to the Animal Shelter.
The Shelter is operated by the Jackson County Board of Supervisors but serves the entire county. The Shelter averages almost 100 pet adoptions each month. Unfortunately, for every one pet adoption, five new animals are taken to the shelter.
“It’s a five-to-one ratio. These statistics show why special adoption days like this are so important. We want to place as many animals into good homes as possible and the holidays are an ideal way to increase adoptions,” Richman said.
