Veterans services
Jackson
County is proud to be home to 25,000 military veterans, the third largest veteran population in Mississippi.* Almost 10,000 of these local veterans need assistance in filing claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). The County’s Veterans Services Office was established to assist military veterans in obtaining their benefits and advising them of their rights.
Each month our Veterans Services staff personally helps 35 vets, processes 100 DVA forms, and visits four patients at VA hospitals. The most common requests include: funeral advice, file claims, widow benefits, children's benefits, overpayment waives or compromises, discharges, medical assistance, appeals, insurance, government issue homes, loans and assistance to ex-POWs. Last year the County’s office handled more than $25 million in benefits from Veteran's Administration.
Walk-ins are welcomed but appointments are preferred. If you are new client, please remember to bring your “DD-214.” It all begins with this form.
