Fire District

Few organizations demonstrate the power of residents and business owners coming together better than the Jackson County Fire District. At its core the district is made up of ten volunteer fire departments throughout the unincorporated areas of the county. The Fire District has two main objectives- provide professional fire protection to rural property owners and lower the cost of fire insurance rates. 

The district is overseen by the Fire District Coordinator and the Fire Commissioners. The Fire District Coordinator reports to the commissioners, who are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The Fire District Coordinator is also responsible for district’s fiscal year budget and organizing fire prevention activities.

Protecting Your Home

• Define your defensible space.  Create a buffer zone, a minimum of 30 ft noncombustible area around your house
• Reduce flammable vegetation, trees and brush around your home
• Remove or prune trees
• Cut grass and weeds regularly
• Relocate woodpiles and leftover building materials
• Keep your roof and yard clean
• Have easy-to-read road signs and address numbers to your house
• Recycle yard debris and branches
• Know what to do when wildfire strikes
